“Pangisdaan Festival 2020: A Showcase of Navoteno Culture”

One of the highlights of the 114thNavotas Day Founding Anniversary is the annual street dance competition known as “Pangisdaan Festival” held on January 10, 2020 at the Centennial Park, C4 Road, Navotas City.
It is called Pangisdaan Festival since Navotas City is considered as the “Fishing Capital”of the Philippines, the third largest fish port in Asia and the largest in Southeast Asia.
The competition was participated by the six (6) Junior High Schools in the division of Navotas City namely: Navotas National High School headed by the school principal Dr. Ma. Cristina A. Robles, Kaunlaran High School with the leadership of Dr. Cristina C. Miclat, San Rafael Technological and Vocational High School with Ms. WilfrezaBalagosa as the school’s CEO, San Roque National High School with the guidance of Ms. Joji R. Fernando, Tangos National High School under the leadership of Mr. Olival Cruz and Tanza National High School with the administration of Mr. Irwin Jopio respectively.
The yearly activity is the brainchild of the Honorable CongressmanJohn Reynald M. Tiangco of the Lone District of Navotas City and the Honorable Mayor Tobias Reynald M. Tiangco.
Pangisdaan Festival 2020 is an avenue for showcasingNavotas City’s rich culture, heritage and tradition even before it became a city. The performances depict the city’s origin of the past which contributed to its progress and development until its present status today.
Navotas National High School emerged as the champion with a whooping cash prize of one hundred fifty thousand pesos. Also, NNHS will represent the city in the coming “Aliwan Fiesta 2020” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Grounds in Pasay City in April. First runner-up was given to San Roque National High School with one hundred thousand pesos and the second runner-up went to Kaunlaran High School with a cash prize of seventy five thousand pesos. Other major awards were given also and so with the consolation prizes for the schools which were not lucky for this year’s competition.
