The five winning students in copyreading, feature writing, pagwawasto at paguulo ng balita and pagsulat ng editoryal will join the NCR team in the National Schools Press Conference next year in Tuguegarao City. This is a marked improvement compared to only two RSPC qualifiers last year.
The improved performance of the division can be attributed to the Intensive Journalism Training for RSPC qualifiers conducted on September 7, 14 and 21, 2019 spearheaded by Dr. Marco Meduranda (EPS in English) and Dr. Rico Tarectecan (EPS in Filipino). The RSPC campaign this year was also an achievement as this was the first time that SDO Navotas was able to join ALL the journalism categories (both in individual and group contests for English and Filipino). This was the first time that the division fielded contestants in TV Scriptwriting Broadcasting and Online Publishing.
Twelve buses were also provided by the City Government of Navotas, which conveniently transported the campus journalists and school paper advisers to the contest venues during the RSPC competitions held from October 08-11, 2019 at Aurora Quezon Elementary School, Malate Manila.
The winning students and trainers were also recognized by Mayor Tobias Reynald Tiangco during the flag-raising ceremony on October 28, 2019. Present in the activity were the very supportive Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Alejandro G. Ibañez, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Buenafe Sabado and Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division, Mrs. Loida O. Balasa as well as the school principals and the education supervisors in-charge of journalism.
